James Jones Literary Society/
Lincoln Trail Writing Award

 

The James Jones Literary Society, in conjunction with Lincoln Trail Community College, will award $500 for the best short story entry following the listed requirements. The Society wishes to honor James Jones for his own short stories collected in The Ice-Cream Headache and to encourage local residents with an interest in creative writing.


Requirements:

 

1.         An original story of at least 1500 words in length to be submitted to Danelle Hevron at Lincoln Trail College Marketing Office. The story must be typed (or word processed) and have the required JJLS entry form.  Author’s name is only to appear on the entry form, not on the manuscript and have the title of the story at the top left of every page.

2.         Applicants must be: a high school senior or at least 18 years old or older officially residing in Crawford or Clark County, Illinois, or a graduate of LTC. Students who have already earned credits from LTC,  high school seniors graduating this spring who will attend LTC at least part-time this year, and current LTC students are particularly encouraged to enter their stories.

3.         The applicant for this award cannot have been published professionally (meaning received payment).

4.         The story must be submitted no later than June 30, 2007, to Danelle Hevron, LTC Marketing at LTC.

5.         Previous winners cannot enter the competition again.

 
Entry forms are available from: LTC’s Marketing Office (618-544-8657 x1123); LTC’s Eagleton Learning Resource Center; area high school English teachers (after Jan. 26, 2007); the Robinson Public Library and other Crawford County libraries, Clark County high schools and the Marshall Public Library; or online through the JJLS web site: http://jamesjoneslitsociety.vinu.edu .

All entries will be coded so that the judges do not know the identity of the writers until a winner has been selected.. 

*The JJLS reserves the right not to award the stated amount should there be an insufficient number of entries for a fair judgment or no entry is judged acceptable.
