Les Habitants du Poste Vincennes
1732 - 1778
Monday, November 19, 2001
Bonjour Mes Amis!
The main purpose of this communication is to tell you of an upcoming meeting.
I think it will be a lively one and we'll get to some of the nitty-gritty
(more on that later.) The next meeting of Les Habitants du Poste Vincennes
is;
Tuesday, November 27, 2001
7:00 p.m. EST (6:00 p.m. DST)
Bloebaum-Fuller Annex*
I am really excited as our list of participants grows and I am happy that you are all interested in sharing this vision with me to bring this history and culture to life. We had the first "Les Habitants" meeting on the evening of Saturday, November 3, at the Fort Knox II site during the Muster on the Wabash weekend, around the campfire. I know there were several interested people unable to attend that evening, but we still had a nice number, and I kept it an informational meeting. A couple more people signed up at that time (we inadvertently discovered a recruitment method - play live music before the meeting). During both event days at the lean-to, people took flyers, stopped, looked and talked, and three more signed up!
And now for the "nitty-gritty":
During the November 27 meeting, this is the agenda I hope to accomplish;
1. Introduce ourselves.
2. Briefly review November 3 meeting (any questions concerning the meeting
or the "What It Isn't/What It Is" list), mention resources, website, etc.
3. Hashing out and stating our goals and objectives.
4. Brainstorming - what kinds of things can we do to achieve these goals
and objectives (any ideas at all)?
5. From these - what is generally practical for us now and to achieve
sometime in the future?
6. And from these - what are some things we can do soon while we are getting
our feet wet?
7. If there is time left after this (we'll try not to stay late), we'll
talk about other organizational fine points.
If not, we'll schedule another meeting for that. I thought it would be a
good idea to go over what we are about and what kinds of things we'll be
doing before we decide how to organize.
I will have some materials available to keep or look over. If you have any resource materials or information you'd like to share, please bring them. Also, come with ideas (see #4, above) so we can get our brainstorming session really pumping. Our wide variety of experience and backgrounds should bring up lots of different ideas and spark new ones. Any ideas for a Les Habitants website are also appreciated. As always, if you know someone else who may be interested, bring him/her along or give out my contact information. I hope the meeting time is not a problem for those in the Daylight Savings Time zone. If so, come when you can and we'll see if we can work out something better.
I've included the "What It Isn't/What It Is" list that we went over during the November 3 meeting. If you have any questions or suggestions about anything, please contact me or bring them up on November 27.
I think this may be the most important meeting to get Les Habitants du Poste Vincennes off the ground and moving. I look forward to seeing you there. Have a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
