Sorry to take so long, I have been working and I use my daughter's computer.
I'm 51 now, this happened when I was about 8. I went to spend the night at my uncle's out on Bunker Hill. I can't remember which street but it was up from Shephard's grocery store. It was about 1 a.m. They had an outhouse and you had to go out at night. We never went all the way down the path just to pee wee. We always woke someone up to go with us, a sister or friend. I was the only one spending the night and I didn't want to wake up my aunt and uncle so I went out about ten to fifteen feet from the porch.
I was stooped down and heard a woman crying and moaning. It was very loud and I remember very clearly thinking (it must be the people across the road, they must have had an arguement and she is on the porch crying) I stood up to look and saw the source of the noise. It was a white mist drifting down the center of the road. I couldn't make out a distinct form but I knew it was a woman because I was a woman's voice coming from the mist. As the mist reached the ground it kind of faded out.
As I stated before, it was drifting or floating, not directly at me, but "IT" would have went past me down the road. There was a hill sloping down to the road, not a big one, about 35 feet or so. At first I was paralized with fear, but my desire to get back into the house was stronger, and I ran back inside. I went and got under my aunt and uncle's bed. After a while I went and got my pillow and blanket and spent the rest of the night under their bed.
I never said anything to them, in fact I never said anything to anyone for years. When I got older I would drive out there to the spot and just sit and look a while. I NEVER did this at night. In fact I wouldn't go there at night even now.
When ever I return to Vincennes I am drawn to this place and can never resist going there, even for a few minutes. About five years ago I asked my uncle if he had ever seen this apparition, or knew of anyone saying anything about seeing something like it. He said he had not and told me I was goofey.
