Subject: real stories from Indiana

Hey this Monica from Brazil, Indiana. I enjoyed the site, but I realized  that there weren't very many from Indiana. Indiana is like full of legends and  scary tales, but because we are kind of a not important state, nobody notices. I  have a few stories for you:

1. Spooklight Hill (Terre Haute)

This story has many versions. Mine is simply this,  back in the 1800's a girl and her father were coming home one night with their  horse and buggy. Something spooked the horse and the whole thing came crashing  down. In the process, the girl's head got chopped off. Her father every night  would go looking for her head, but it was never found. He died from a broken  heart. And now if you go up there to the hill, and shut off everything but blink  your headlights 3 times, you can see the father's lantern swinging as he still,  to this day, looks for his daughter's head.

2. 100 Steps (Staunton)

This is right outside of Staunton by a cemetery.  There are these steps and they say that if you go at midnight on a full moon and  count the steps all the way up, you won't come up with the same number going  down. It is a simple thing but it is kind of scary. It is always scarier if  there is no story behind it. It is just there.

3. Hell's Gates (Carbon)

This is new to me but you are supposed to go  up there and weird stuff is supposed to happen. Many people committed suicide up  there and you are supposed to see their ghosts.

4. The 4 Arches (Carbon)

This is new too. I have only been to one of them  and that was scary enough. There are four arches near each other in the Carbon  area. If you drive very slowly under them or just stop under them if you are  brave enough and it is supposed to feel like the walls are closing in on you. I  only went to one and it really did happen. I don't even think I am brave enough  to go to the rest.

5. Crying Baby Cemetery (Rockville)

There is this cemetery I can't remember where, but  if you go in there you can hear a mother sobbing over her lost baby. Then, if  you wait long enough you will hear a baby's cry. It tells the story in the  legend that the mother lost her baby somehow and she is mourning over it where  they put the headstone.

6. Old Indian Burial Ground (Brazil)

This is down the road from Fallen Rock Parke Restaurant. It is on top of a hill. There is a cemetery up there and an Indian  buried himself up there for some odd reason. If you climb up there at midnight  and stand there for a second you can hear drums and howling. I have even  seen the shadow of the lonely Indian.

7. Lamplight Woods (Brazil)

This is my last one. This is right behind my house.  My friend and I went out there one night to talk and be spontaneous. And my  stump behind my house that looks like a person is bad enough at night but then  we looked up and saw a light coming out of nowhere. It scared me so bad  that I could not move. My friend had to literally drag me back. I soon learned  that before I moved in to my house there, a little girl got attacked in those  woods by her own dog that had gotten rabies from a red fox. She was out there  with a flashlight searching for her dog when it happened. Now, if you go out  there at night you can see her beam of light as she searches for her dog. It was  real and very scary.

Thank  you for taking the time to read some real scary stories from Indiana.
