June 1997:
James Jones Literary Society submits James Jones Commemorative Stamp proposal to U.S. Postal Service.
July 1997:
Notification of Proposal Placement before Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee. Many proposals do not even make it this far. (First major hurdle.)
February 1998:
Citizen's Stamp Advisory Committee Nominates JJ Stamp for consideration. Most proposals do not make it to this stage (Second major hurdle.).
October 1998:
Manager of Stamp Development indicates final delcision will be made in next 12-18 months by the Stamp Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee is made up of American educational, artistic, historical, and cultural experts. Over 50,000 letters and proposals were submitted in 1998. Only a limited number will make it to final approval and stamp issuance.
