Richard,

Hey! Great site!

I was really surprised to see this site! I used to live in Wheatland, and still tell the tales of Lucky Point, Ghost Hollow, and the Niblack House.

You don't have the Niblack House listed but you should! It's located in Wheatland, right on Hwy. 550. I believe the (name deleted) still own the house and it IS haunted!!

Also, the Frat house out by Fritchton is said to be haunted. I did not know about that one until I read it in a book about haunted houses of the US.

The triangular UFO seems to be prevelent around here. I know of a gentleman who told me he saw one back around 1972 hovering over him at Princeton Community High School. He described it as having 3 small triangles one inside the other, on the underside.

Then of course there is the bigfoot sightings in the Camp Arthur area. I HAD a real good plaster cast of some of the footprints in that area, and I know of a young man who had an "encounter" with it as well. I believe that was around 1981.

The house on 6th St. where a girl was murdered (several years ago) is also haunted, I know of a gentleman in Vincennes who is suppose to have a videotape of that ghost. I'm still waiting for him to let me view it.

All in all... it seems that Knox County has it's share of the unexplained. So I am glad to see someone else is tracking this stuff!

Thanks!

Again, GREAT SITE!

Brenda's Niblack House Report:

ANYWAY.... The house is a two story house with 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 bedroom downstairs. As you come in the front door, there is a stairway leading to the second floor.

Directly across from the head of the stairs, is a closet, which interestingly, has a hidden "hole", for lack of a better word, that was put in by the Niblack family tohide the children in the event of an Indian attack.

To the left of the closet is the back bedroom, which "Old Lady Niblack" used for her bedroom. It has a huge walk-in closet, and has a small door that goes into the attic. The attic runs almost the full length of the house.

I moved to Princeton in 1988, so at least until that time, the owner had never been able to go into the attic. Any light source would be extinguished. I know he told me he had tried, candle, cigarette lighter, flashlight, drop light, you name it... it would go out within a few feet of entering the attic. On the night he was relating this to me, I was left standing in the closet doorway, when it suddenly started to gently swing shut. No... there was NO draft, the door had NO PROBLEM staying open for the ½ to 1 hour we were up there, but it suddenly decided to SHUT. We of course, all stared at it with our eyes about to pop out of our heads, then I stepped aside so it could close. We ALL decided it was time to go back downstairs!

Downstairs, my girlfriend's husband and I were looking at a picture in the parlor, when his wife came in, along with my children and theirs. She asked if we had just been in the front bedroom upstairs. (The front bedroom was being used for storage). "No", we told her, we had been in the back bedroom earlier. She stated that as her and the kids were coming up the walk, she saw the silhouette against the window shade, of a woman combing her hair!

My daughter also saw this.

A friend had been leaving the house on another night, and thought he heard someone call his name. He glanced back at the back porch, and saw the shadow of what appeared to be an old man. When he turned around to get a second look, it was gone.

Other interesting tidbit bits, (although I personally did not observe these), are:

1. Hair pins would fall out of the air.

2. Piano in the parlor would play by itself, the rocking chair would rock by itself.

3. Nothing would live in the cellar. (Not even bugs!)

4. They had tried to remodel back in the 1980s, paneling would pop back off the walls.

5. But the most hair raising, was the owners told me that during the period they were trying to remodel, they decided to sleep over in sleeping bags one night, and were DRUG, from the parlor into the downstairs bedroom in their sleeping bags!

Ghost Videotaped in Haunted House?

The house on 6th St. where a girl was murdered (several years ago) is also haunted, I know of a gentleman in Vincennes who is suppose to have a videotape of that ghost. I'm still waiting for him to let me view it.

I'm still trying to get to see the film. He's rather touchy about the tape, I guess it really unnerved him! He has described what took place, so I will relate it here.

He's not the only one who has seen the ghost.

His ex-wife lived in the right side of the house, (if you are facing the front of the house).

He had the "thing" on videotape, coming down the hall from the kitchen, kinda "bouncing" off the hall walls, then stopping as if it sees the camera, then rushing straight at the camera as the camera goes off. He was there when this all took place. He said it unplugged the cord from the wall. He had set the camera up the night before and left it running in the kitchen. When he came the next night to check it out, there was nothing on the tape. The camera had been shut off. SO, he decided to stay the next night and stand guard over the camera. He did not "see" all the details I related above, until he slowed the tape down.

The ghost he caught on tape is described as a black ameba shaped thing with a hole in the middle.

The only other stuff this ghost seems to have done was to push the 2 year old baby down when it was jabbering at it.

On the Ghost Hollow Site in Wheatland and Lucky Point Near Monroe City

On Ghost Hollow (may it rest in peace!), The stories that you have on the web site, are the same that I've heard.

I went down Ghost Hollow a couple of times, (I've YET to see a ghost, but still trying!), never did see anything, but it was a spooky place. I could find better places I would rather park if I was a teenager! Of course, Ghost Hollow is gone now... dug up by the coal mine and hauled away... but it's legend lives on! You have the only picture of it I have ever seen!

Lucky Point was my favorite stomping grounds, but unfortunately, I never did see or hear anything strange there. Thought about going up there this weekend and mushroom hunt.

They used to put out some great white morels!

Hope that gives you some interesting stuff.

It's interesting that you have the story about the Bigfoot atCamp Arthur. Danny Thais was the one who took me around the property.. It was an errie feeling seeing 10 acres filled with 15" footprints!

Richard,

The Thais boys were good friends of the son of some friends of mine. That's how I got the tour of the property. The rumor of them faking the prints did not come from them.

They, along with my friend's son, and a couple of other boys tried to track it during the day by following the prints into the woods. They also went out at night one time, and encountered "sounds" that they said was circling them.

It scared the pants off them all so no.. I don't think they faked it. The boys were all avide hunters and were familiar with the wildlife in the area. Whatever circled them, was unfamiliar to them.
